The storms and oranges

The storms and oranges

Ruth Palomero 12176 25 February 2020

Dear customer,

In our land, storms have always been a part of life, as Raimon's song says:

"In my country, the rain doesn't know how to rain, or it rains too little, or too much."

With climate change, we are experiencing increasingly aggressive storms, with heavy rainfall and frightening wind speeds. This was evident, for instance, during the week of January 20, 2020: Storm Gloria flooded our orchards, and hurricane-force winds caused significant damage, including the loss of a considerable portion of our harvest. Many of the oranges left on the trees were damaged on the skin due to rubbing against branches caused by the strong winds. During storms, this effect of the wind, combined with the moisture from the rain, makes oranges more prone to damage, even those that do not appear to have any visible flaws. In these cases, besides careful selection and attention to our customers so they do not have to bear these damages, there is not much more we can do. Working with perishables without post-harvest treatments is no easy task. We are aware of the risk involved in not applying any post-harvest treatments. However, it pays off when our customers appreciate the excellent flavor of our oranges.

The storm also set records in terms of wave heights, reaching up to 14 meters, the highest since records began in the Mediterranean. Fortunately, the negative effects of the storm subside in a few days. Affected fruits fall from the trees, leaving only the undamaged ones. Our team will continue working to offer you the best and most natural oranges, as well as the best customer service.

Thank you for the trust and understanding you always show us in these situations.
